What is Parentscope?
Parentscope is a local, free and regular drop-in session where all parents and carers of children aged between 3-16 years of age have access to a range of qualified professionals from Education, Health and the Police to discuss any worries or concerns you may have about your child.
What concerns can I talk about?
Almost any concern that does not require medical treatment. These may include:
- Managing difficult behaviours
- Sleep/bedtime routines
- School or education matters
- Child’s well-being
- Child’s online safety
- Safety on the streets
- Child’s general health matters
- The relationship you have with your child(ren)
- Home routines and school attendance
Who will be there?
Every Parentscope will be attended by:
A Parent Advisor from the Bridge, An Educational Psychologist, A Community Nurse, A Community Police Officer, A Primary Mental Health Worker and an Education Welfare Officer
How does it work?
Once you have made an appointment, the team will assign two professionals to talk to you about your concern. Their aim is to give you general advice about dealing with the problem you have brought to the discussion. Appointments usually last about half an hour and a follow up visit may be discussed.
Discussions are informal and in a relaxing environment over a cup of tea.
When do they run?
Each Parentscope runs for one afternoon every half term.
How do I make an appointment?
Simply ring your local Parentscope administrator (detail at the back of this leaflet) to arrange an appointment. There are three Parentscope settings across the island to make it easier for you to get there. Please attend the session closest to where you live.
Can I bring my child?
We do not need to see your child. Parentscope is a drop in for adults to talk over your concerns. If you have very young children and no-one to look after them, then bring them along. We do have a small range of toys for them to play with whilst you are talking to the professionals.
Where do they run?
There are three meetings once every half term and run between 1pm and 4pm.
