About Freedom of Information (FOI)

The Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 is designed to make us more accountable and transparent in the way we operate and make decisions. It gives you the right to access information held by us. All you have to do is ask.

  • learning more about how the government and public authorities work in Jersey
  • taking part in debates about issues that may affect you or your family
  • helping you to develop ideas or inform your business decisions

Asking for information (making an FOI request)

Before you make a request for information you should:

  1. Check whether the information is already published and available to you
  2. Check that you're not requesting your own personal information, FOI and Data Protection: the difference
  3. Check out our full guide on how to make an FOI request if you're unsure about anything

You must make your request in writing. The easiest way to do this is by completing our online FOI form.
