Independent Living Consultants
-Approved Home Care Provider-
Life is for living...
Are you worried about keeping your independence despite ongoing health difficulties? Do you have an older friend or family member who is finding it increasingly difficult to manage daily tasks?
If you can relate to this, you are not alone. Many older and disabled people have health difficulties that significantly affect their ability to manage daily living activities such as household chores, getting washed and dressed and leisure pursuits. At the same time, staying at home and being able to exercise choice and control is a recognised priority.
Independent Living Consultants can help you to meet your potential for living safely and independently at home.
Beginning with an Occupational Therapy based assessment, our team of qualified professionals will work with you, and your family members where appropriate, to identify creative solutions and alternatives that will allow you to lead a fulfilling life.
We use our knowledge and experience of the local services in Jersey to recommend a package of home support that has been tailored to fit your individual requirements and preferences. If you agree with our recommendations, we will go on to organise these for you. We can also arrange regular follow-up visits to review your needs and requirements and provide peace of mind for both you and your family members
Independent Living Consultants were established in 2007 with the aim of providing professional and impartial advice to people with disabilities and health difficulties who want to remain independent.
Although our emphasis is on helping people to be safe and comfortable at home, we recognise that it is often the environment outside the home that can challenge independence. With this in mind we also provide a Consultancy Service to companies and individuals who require advice on general access issues, both in the work place and in public areas.
Our team at Independent Living is led by Joanna MacLachlan and Verity Boak.
Joanna MacLachlan, who worked as a senior nurse before coming to Jersey 16 years ago, has a broad knowledge of the medical services both here and on the mainland. Since being on Jersey, she cared for her aging mother for six years and is experienced with the issues involved.
Verity Boak, an Occupational Therapist, has extensive experience working within the community promoting independent living. She has also worked in Jersey advising the building industry on disability related matters.
