How do I join the library?
Just bring the following information with you:
- proof of identity (eg credit card or passport)
- official document that shows your address in Jersey (eg bank statement or a letter from your employer)
Visitors
Short term visitors to the Island can use the library by leaving a valid card from their home library or a cash deposit with us before borrowing.
Where can I use my library card?
You can use your library card at all of Jersey's libraries:
- the town library
- Les Quennevais branch library
- the mobile library service
Home library
If you are housebound and unable to get to a library, our home library service can bring books to your door.
What can I borrow from the library?
We have a range of items and materials that you can borrow, including:
- popular, classic and contemporary fiction (arranged alphabetically by author name)
- informational, educational and recreational books
- graphic novels
- Audio CDs and cassettes - a wide range of fiction and non-fiction titles
- large print titles - fiction and non-fiction
- language tapes and CD courses - from Arabic to Welsh
- DVDs - educational and informational
- music - CDs, scores and more
How many items can I borrow at one time?
It is free to borrow from the library, but you will be charged if you do not return your items on time. Borrowing allowances depend on your age:
- if you're under 18: you can borrow 8 items at one time
- if you're 18 or over: you can borrow 12 items at one time
Informational, recreational and educational books
You can borrow books on the following subjects and more
- travel guides
- biographies
- workshop manuals
- computing
- gardening
- cookery
- health
- sports
Music collection
Our music collection includes CDs, vocal and study scores, instrumental tutors and scores for individual instruments. We also have dictionaries of music and music magazines. Please ask about our orchestral sets and vocal scores that we can supply to choirs and orchestras.
Express selection
If you are short of time, try our express selection area. Choose from a constantly changing selection of fiction including our newest titles. You can also check out and return your items on our Selfcheck™ terminal.
Reservations
If the item you want is already out on loan you can reserve it for a small charge. Items already in stock can be reserved online. We can also buy your requested items, or obtain them from other libraries on your behalf.
Borrow online
You can search, renew and reserve your library books online, borrow ebooks and audiobooks and download free magazines.
