The Centre - St. Helier Methodist

We call ourselves ‘The Centre’ because:

  • The Centre is open throughout the week and not just Sundays.
  • The Centre is in the heart of St Helier and is for everyone.
  • The Centre is about people and not just the building.
  • The Centre of our faith is Christ.

Our logo identifies some of our key components:

The red orb and Cross symbolise the crucified and risen Christ who is the heart of our faith.

The map pin is an acknowledgement to modernity and our iconic building in the Centre of St Helier.

The round orb echoes John Wesley’s mission and message “I look upon the whole world as my parish”, Oxford 11th June 1738.

There is no line around the image because we don’t want to put up barriers to people to coming in.

The curved ‘friendly’ text of the Centre expresses our lack of sharp edges and the warmth of our welcome: “A place of belonging, a purpose for life”.

The strong, clear text of ‘St Helier Methodist’ expresses the undergirding strength of our Methodist heritage and our direct style of worship.

The font is reminiscent of the lettering on the exterior of the church and our urban environment.

We are a community of all ages, all nations, all stages of faith.

Worship

Our worship is varied, you can expect contemporary worship songs, traditional hymns, relevant preaching, DVD clips and drama.

Kids

We have a growing and active Children’s ministry with many activities taking place throughout the week.

Cafe

We opened the Café to serve as a meeting place in the centre of St Helier where all would be welcome and find ‘a place to belong’

Food Bank

With other churches in St Helier we support individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet. The loss of a job, arrival of an illness or a change in relationships can make people very vulnerable.

While we cannot solve the problems, we do try and make a practical difference. We maintain a supply of emergency food which is distributed via referral from the CAB.

All the Methodist churches in Jersey support us in this work. Together with other agencies in St Helier we are committed to tackling food poverty and its potentially devastating impact.

We can always do with more financial backing.

Street Pastors

Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban issues engaging with people on the streets to care and listen.

It was pioneered in London in January 2003 and has seen some remarkable results, including drops in crime in areas where teams have been working. There are now over 270 teams around Great Britain.

Street Pastors Jersey have been caring, listening, and helping on the streets of St Helier since November 2009. The Methodist Centre is delighted to work in partnership with them.

Prayer Pastors are always supporting the Street Pastors when they are out. To know more contact Street Pastors Jersey Coordinator on 07829 740004
