Sports massage is not just for athletes it is for everyone!
Every day our bodies communicate with us. Something as simple as sitting in the same position for long periods of time or carrying out repetitive tasks can have a knock-on effect if not dealt with. These signals are experienced as aches, pains, tightness and restriction to movement. Sports massage separates the soft tissue that is stuck together softening hardened tissue, promoting circulation, helping restore movement and mobility around joints that have become stiff and painful.
If you are an athlete, then you probably already know the value in having regular sports massages especially as part of your preparation or recovery from an event. Working to either loosen, repair or refresh sore, aching limbs goes a long way in improving endurance, strength and mobility.
Anyone with a fresh injury should seek medical advice from a medical professional. This is not a role that a Sports massage therapist should fill.
Sports massage is a deep tissue massage that aims to massage and manipulate the muscles, stretch out the fascia, and work remedially to ease tightness and restrictions. A good sports massage therapist uses a multitude of techniques such as Neuromuscular Therapy 'NMT', Soft Tissue Release 'STR' and Myofascial Release tailoring them to the needs of the individual client. An excellent knowledge of the anatomy allows a sports massage therapist to utilise both passive and active methods of stretching muscles in order to encourage recovery of damaged areas without causing discomfort or additional stress.
Human physiology has amazing capabilities, but it doesn't mean we cannot give it a helping hand. Sports massage can help with a range of sports injuries such as shin splints, hamstring tears, tennis elbow, conditions such as scoliosis, sciatica, RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), frozen shoulders, tight calves, sore glutes, breathing difficulties and sore, tight shoulders, as well as stress related conditions such as tension headaches and migraines.
During a Swedish massage the therapist lubricates the skin with massage oil and performs a range of massage strokes. These movements warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking up muscle knots or adhesions.
Swedish massage is perfect for beginners or those wanting to just destress. One of the primary goals of a Swedish massage is to relax the body, but it also has the benefit of oxygenating the blood, helping the lymph system remove toxins, improving circulation and increasing the muscles range and flexibility.
If you are coming to us for the first time please stipulate whether you would like light, medium or firm pressure applied by the therapist and always declare if you have any injuries or other conditions that they should know about.
How does Hatha Yoga compare to other forms of yoga?
The term "Hatha yoga" refers to any of the physical practices of yoga, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa and most other styles we practise today are in fact forms of Hatha yoga. In the West we generally interpret it as a gentle, relaxing approach, which makes it good for beginners.
Hatha yoga uses postures, breathing techniques and relaxation to help you stretch, unwind and release mental and physical tension. Taking Hatha yoga lessons on a regular basis can help overcome stress, strengthen and rebalance your body, mind and spirit.
