Jersey Recovery College

Hope - Opportunity - Empowerment
What we do
Jersey Recovery College is a community-based independent mental health charity. We offer education and training opportunities to people experiencing mental health difficulties and the family, friends and professionals who support them.
Our courses support people to enhance their knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions, recovery, wellbeing and life skills. All our courses work to provide hope, opportunity and empowerment to our students. Every course is co-designed and delivered by a peer trainer, with lived experience, and a co-trainer, with professional expertise in the topic area.
A community vision
Our Recovery College was developed from the States of Jersey Mental Health Strategy: ‘A Mental Health strategy for Jersey (2016 – 2020)’. In February 2016 we invited the local community to help us shape a vision for the college and over one hundred people from our island contributed. People with lived experience, carers and professionals worked together to create our local vision with guidance and support from local partners Jersey Employment Trust and Mind Jersey, successful UK-based recovery colleges and ImROC. That vision was passed to a Steering Group of nine individuals who worked tirelessly to launch our first semester on 23rd January 2017.
Co-production
Co-production is at the heart of everything we do. It means that people with lived experience work alongside professionals in an equal and reciprocal relationship to create something meaningful. Every aspect of Jersey Recovery College is co-produced and we are committed to being continuously informed by the individuals who access our service.Jersey Recovery College is an independent local charity, funded by the States of Jersey and donations from the local community.
Education and training
We provide education and training opportunities for people experiencing mental health difficulties and the families, friends and professionals who support them.
Inspiring people to manage their wellbeing
Founded on the principles of hope, opportunity and empowerment, Jersey Recovery College provides new opportunities to learn about mental health and how to manage wellbeing.
What makes our courses different?
Our courses are designed and delivered in partnership between people who have lived experience of mental health difficulties and those with professional experience, for example an occupational therapist, nutritionist, employment coordinator or psychiatrist. It’s known as co-production and we feel it helps to offer the best insight and experience possible. Our courses are open to adults experiencing mental health difficulties and the family and professionals who support them.
