Age Concern - Jersey

WE ARE AGE CONCERN JERSEY

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to lead a fulfilling later life. We are hopeful that together we can create an Island where everyone can achieve this. We welcome everyone from 55+, whatever their needs, interests or circumstances, and act sensitively to all. We believe that growing old should be celebrated and we speak up for most islanders that have reached later life.

About Us

Age Concern Jersey is a Jersey based charity that supports the elderly in the community and also campaigns on their behalf.

Our Mission:

  • That there should be no ageism. Age should be recognised as a gift not a burden.
  • That older people should be given respect and courtesy.
  • That older people should have enough money to live on and not rely on hand-outs.
  • That older people should be able to enjoy a sense of well-being in a safe and secure environment.
  • That older people should have access to full health care.
  • That older people should be valued and not treated as second class citizens.
  • That older people should have a voice in the community.

Age Concern Jersey receives no financial support from the States of Jersey for the administrative operation of the charity and relies totally on the generosity of the local community to support its work. Age Concern Jersey is also not affiliated to any other charity.

Windsor House

Age Concern Jersey’s HQ is at Windsor House in Val Plaisant, St Helier.  Opened by the then Lieutenant Governor, His Excellency Air Marshal Sir John Sutton, K.C.B. in June 1994, it plays a central role to the services we offer. Windsor House is also home to our charity shop, which is situated at the side of the house.

Every day of the week Windsor house is a hubbub of activity.  With craft sessions, computer classes and social activities in our day centre, lunches served daily, a hairdressing salon and visiting chiropodist there’s always something going on to keep Jersey’s senior citizens active.

Additional services we offer include:

  • Free transport to and from Windsor House is available.

Tuesday Club

Enjoy fun times with friends

Our afternoon social club is held every Tuesday at St Thomas’ Hall and is open to both local senior citizens and those visiting the Island.  Starting at 2.30pm and finishing at approximately 4.30pm you’re guaranteed a warm welcome.

The first half hour of the afternoon changes each week with all sorts of entertainment on offer.  One week might be a quiz or a talk or demonstration from one of our many inspiring visitors.  Or we might be entertained by singers, comedians and musical groups.  We then break for refreshments and the remainder of the afternoon is taken up with bingo and a raffle.  It’s a great way to meet up with old friends and make new ones.

Delicious Frozen Meals delivered to your door

Many Islanders use our Age Concern Frozen Meals service which delivers Island-wide each week.  For families, our service offers peace of mind, knowing a loved one is eating well and being seen every week.  Our fantastic group of volunteers make a point of checking in on each customer to ensure previous meals have been used and that everything is rotated.  It’s an incredibly valuable part of our service to Jersey’s elderly residents and younger people who are unable to prepare meals for themselves due to mobility issues or illness.

Deliveries take place on:

East and North of the Island – Thursday mornings (orders must be in by midday on Tuesday)

West of the Island and Town – Monday mornings (orders must be in by midday on Thursday)

The meals are of excellent quality and value.  You can order as many or as few as you wish with payment on delivery.  All you have to do is pop them in the oven or the microwave for a short time, then sit back and enjoy something delicious.

Our full frozen meal menu, complete with prices, can be viewed here.

Payments for delivery can be by either cash or card.

To order, simply call the office on Freephone 0800 735 0345 or 870354.
