Provision of special dietary / medical products

How can clients access the scheme

A scheme for the supply of special dietary or medical products facilitated by Family Nursing and Home Care (FNHC) and funded by the Health and Community Services and Customer and Local Services. For further information telephone 443684 or 443680.

In order to access the scheme it is necessary for clients to be members of FNHC. The Director has discretionary powers to waive charges in cases of severe material or social hardship.

Children with special needs

Free funding of medical supplies to children under five years of age, with fifteen percent of Family Nursing and Home Care’s retail price for consumables to be paid by families of children over five years of age. The scheme incorporates provision of incontinence pads only for children over three years of age. To access the scheme, at least one family member should be a member of FNHC, with all referrals being made via the Special Needs Health Visitor. See FNHC Health Visiting Service.

Dietary products

Eighty-five percent subsidisation of dietary products required for the treatment of nutritional deficiency. Clients will pay fifteen per cent of Family Nursing and Home Care’s retail price, with all referrals being made through the hospital dietician or the patient’s District Nurse. Feeding equipment

Eighty-five percent subsidisation of feeding equipment required for the administration of the dietary products. Patients will pay fifteen percent of Family Nursing and Home Care’s retail price, with all referrals being made through the hospital dietician or the patient’s District Nurse. Incontinence pads

Eighty-five percent subsidisation of the cost of incontinence pads with patients to pay fifteen percent of the FNHC’s retail price.
