Our Services

X-RAY

At Jersey X-ray Services we use digital X-ray equipment which provides instantaneous images.  The images can be digitally enhanced and are available for our team of consultant radiologists to view and produce a report within hours of your X-ray.

Dental X-rays, both OPG’s and lateral cephalograms can also be arranged, after a referral from your dentist.  The images are then loaded onto a disc for your dentist to view at your next appointment.

We also accept referrals from chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists

All of our equipment is regularly serviced and quality assurance tests are performed on an annual basis by the Radiological Protection Centre at St Georges Hospital, London.

All of our radiographers are fully qualified and hold States of Jersey registration.

Most examinations require  the patient to change into a gown. Spacious changing cubicles are available and lockers provided for personal belongings.

ULTRASOUND

We offer a wide range of ultrasound tests.  The following ultrasound scans all require referral from your doctor or consultant.  Some ultrasound tests can also be requested by your physiotherapist or chiropractor.

•   Abdominal  - including paediatric studies

•   Renal

•   Gynaecological scans, including transvaginal

•   Musculo-skeletal

•   Vascular – including scans for investigation of  Deep Vein Thrombosis and Varicose veins.

•   Thyroid

•   Testicular

Self-referral ultrasound scans.

It is now also possible to self-refer for screening of the carotid arteries and the abdominal aorta.  The reasons for having a carotid artery ultrasound scan are:

•   Family history of stroke or heart disease

•   High cholesterol

•   Recent stroke

•   Known coronary artery disease

•   Diabetes

An ultrasound scan of the aorta is recommended if there is a family history of an abdominal aortic aneurysm – known as an AAA. The present cost of a combined carotid artery and abdominal aorta scan is £260.00 which includes a report for your doctor and images on disc.

DEXA BONE DENSITY SCAN

DEXA stands for Dual Energy X-ray Absorption.

DEXA or Bone Density scans are important for measuring the quality (or density) of your bones.  As you get older the bones can become more brittle (for various reasons)

If there is any indication that you may have osteoporosis, a DEXA scan should be performed. Such inidications include sustaining a fracture after relatively minor trauma.

You should also consider having a DEXA scan if you are at risk for developing osteoporosis, as this puts you at increased risk of sustaining a fracture. Risk factors include those with a family history of osteoporosis, people who consume large amounts of alcohol or are on certain medications such as steroids and women who have an early menopause.

It is a simple scan which takes approximately 20 minutes, with no need to undress.

You will be asked to lie on a couch and the scanner moves over your lower back and hip.  If you have a hip replacement, we will scan your forearm instead of your hip.

You can refer yourself or be referred by your GP, consultant, dentist, chiropractor or physiotherapist.
